The PCS will be equipped with various core functions, including One-stop roundthe-clock real-time cargo tracking, linking up with sea, land, and air transportation information, analysis and alert function, and value-added electronic service – One Data Multiple Declarations. By integrating and optimising various processes, including vessel scheduling, cargo tracking, and container handling, etc., the PCS enhances the efficiency, transparency, and reliability of logistics supply chains. Through the realtime data collection, analysis, and sharing, the industry could gain valuable insights into the cargo movement and status of the goods, enabling proactive decision-making and risk mitigation. The enhanced visibility will allow for better coordination, reduced delays, and enhanced operational efficiency, thereby boosting the competitiveness of Hong Kong’s port. Ms Mable CHAN, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Hon Frankie YICK Chi-ming, Legislative Council Member, Miss Amy CHAN, the Commissioner for Maritime and Port Development, Miss Polly CHONG, Principal Assistant Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Simon WONG, Chief Executive Officer, LSCM, and Dr Frank TONG, Director/ Chief Scientist, Research & Technology Development, LSCM, officiated the Launch Ceremony of the PCS in May 2025. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed among the Transport and Logistics Bureau, LSCM and Guangdong e-Port Management Company Limited, signifying the collaboration of the three organisations in the development of the PCS. The event was well attended by the representatives from the industry, showing their strong support for the development and deployment of the PCS. The trial version of the Port Community System has been released. Interested parties may fill in the registration form to participate in the trial. Feedback and suggestions from industry sector are invaluable to the enhancement and development of the PCS. In addition, a News Portal App which gathers industry news, reports, blogs, and other useful information is also developed for the port community’s reference and discussion. Hong Kong has been dedicated to the digitalisation and the development of the Smart Port. The continuous enhancement of the PCS could assist the industry in coping with the challenges in the highly competitive environment. It will foster the digitalisation of the port logistics and consolidate Hong Kong’s position as an international trade and maritime hub.
